PRESS RELEASE
|
|
Troy Corporation is please to announce that Brenda Papadakis will be joining us
in our warehouse on Monday, October 6, 2008 for
Fabriganza Fall 2008.
Mention Dear Jane® and Brenda Papadakis is the first name that comes to mind.
At
Fabriganza Fall 2008
you will be able to learn from and talk to Brenda, who helped design the beautiful new Dear Jane® collection
which allows DJers to create their "Baby Janes" with fabrics authentically reproduced from their
vintage counterparts and die-hard reproduction enthusiasts can take advantage of the beautiful
patterns and colors that are the essence of Jane Stickle.
Rich in history,
the quilt that inspires the Dear Jane audience was actually made by Jane A. Stickle during the
Civil War. She signed her quilt "In War Time 1863". The masterpiece consists of 169 blocks
measuring 4-1/2" square, surrounded by 52 8"x5" triangles and four corner triangles.
But it is more than the variety of the pieced and appliquéd blocks that evoke such strong emotion
among "Janiacs". The quilt has its own unique "aura" that transcends generations, reaching
quilters of varied levels of skill, age and style. The quilters profess a heartfelt,
soul-searching experience as they work to create their own unique interpretation of the
blocks - a connection to their "sister" Jane.
Plan to attend Brenda's class on Monday, October 6th. We are very excited that Brenda will be with us at
Fabriganza Fall 2008.
Make sure that you will be here too.
Watch for further details that will be announced shortly so that you can be part of
the most fabulous

About Brenda Papadakis
|
A class at the University of Tennessee, Southern Appalachian Folk Culture,
was Brenda Manges Papadakis' introduction to quiltmaking. After writing a research
paper on quilting, Brenda knew she wanted to make a quilt. "Since the early nineteen seventies,"
she says, 'I've been doing just that. Most of all, I enjoy the drafting and designing."
This preference reflects Brenda's background as a mathematician. She holds a B.S. in
Mathematics Education, and an M.S. in Special Education, both from the University of
Tennessee. A teacher for twenty-three years, she has taught a wide range of students,
including the learning disabled, mentally retarded and those gifted in mathematics and science.
Brenda's extensive teaching experience enhances her popular quilting classes,
which she began in 1991. She specializes in Amish and Japanese quiltmaking and designs,
as well as Baltimore Applique. Her quilt teaching credits include workshops in Japan,
where she developed a group of Baby Jane enthusiasts. Her present relationship with
Jane A. Blakely Stickle has resulted in a fascination for miniature patterns, and an
abiding interest in women's history.
